Ibram Kendi TEEN Deep Dive

This Deep Dive discussion group for students ages 14-18 will meet virtually three times to discuss and create work inspired by STAMPED: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Participants will take part in a 30 minute moderator-led discussion of the sections of the book they cover each week. Following the discussion, they will take part in 40 minute creative writing workshops which gives youth the opportunity to process topics discussed while also finding their own voice.
The discussion will be led by award-winning journalist Bryce Huffman and the creative writing workshops will be led by La Shaun phoenix Moore, a Detroit-based vocalist, spoken word artist, and activist who works with a variety of organizations, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and InsideOut Literary Arts in Detroit. Virtual Pass holders will need to purchase this a la carte ticket for the group discussion. Purchase of the book is separate and required for participation.

Ibram X. Kendi is one of America’s foremost historians and leading antiracist voices. He is a National Book Award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author. Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and the Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. Kendi is a contributor writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News correspondent. He will become the 2020-2021 Frances B. Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.
